like it or not, our new (100 days old) PM has got his own 'personal website' where he communicates with the rakyat... i finally found time (and enuf curiosity) to click into it today...
i started with 1malaysiadotcom, which turned out to be some web-hosting company... pretty far-sighted this guy... our dear PM's web is in fact, with dotmy. of course, we are in MY after all....
again, whether you like it or not, our PM too, is a very marketing savvy PM. i cant help but feel the whole website is like a promotional site of some fmcg brand. forgive me for being - for what i label myself - observant... :)
anyhow, the point for this post is... i clicked to participate in a poll currently displayed at the site. it is, surprise! surprise! about the recent maid hoo-haa in mehsia...
i chosed 'improved wage & benefits structure'.... which left me appalled when i saw the results to-date. i can understand we hav our varying degrees of preferences and thinkings. but 'improved wage & benefits structure' only got a demeaning percentage of 7.5%?????????......
which makes me think.. we never learn. really... "legislation against abuse & harrassment"? who are we kidding??? dont we already have that by now? and who in their right mind wouldnt know of the consequences of abusing someone? kids, adults, or maids? we have death penalty for drug offenders and the rotan for rapists too... so what? all the abuses (i feel), stemmed from disrespect and belittling of the maids, by the employers (some sick percentage of larh~). they think (perhaps) they are nothing but a piece of meat, being paid to scrub and dust... when someone needs to pay only so little for something in return, you'd automatically not appreciate that something, and treat it like some worthless object. i can understand that...
like how you'd talk to some high-flying professionals in the lift, and how you'd talk to the cleaning worker (often foreign) by the corridor... i tink the comparison is obvious...
oh well,... i initially thought i'd add the blog to my new list of 'blogs i-go-2 kepoh'... but at the end of it, i thought, nahh~!.... i'd save it for something more worthreadwhile...
